The client planned this media room for several years before he contacted Home Media for the A/V system design and installation. He did the design and framing himself, but hired a general contractor (Signature Renovations) to coordinate the subs and Bluebird Cabinetry for the bar and cabinets around the screen.
You'll notice there are no speaker grilles around the screen. We used an acoustically transparent screen with the left, center, and right channel speakers mounted in a baffle behind it. The on screen sound comes right from the screen, where it's supposed to — just like at the cinema.
When the movie is over a set of beautiful brushed metal sheathed tambour doors slide across to hide the projection screen.
The subwoofer for the system is located in an enclosure built into a knee wall and covered with a fabric grille. This is typical of how we can use the knee walls in attic spaces. As well as hiding subwoofers, we build equipment racks into them, too. It's a nice way to preserve floor space and give the room clean, uncluttered look.
The high ceiling adds a great sense of spaciousness to the room. A Sharp DLP projector is visible, mounted to the black tray ceiling. Two of the three in-ceiling bipolar surround speakers are visible in the sloped walls near the ceiling.
A Lutron GrafikEye multi-zone dimmer provides four different lighting scenes that are triggered from the hand-held touch screen remote. Just a press of the button labeled 'Play Movie' and the projector turns on, the DVD starts, and the lights dim.
We also located a switch at the bottom of the stairs to make the GrafikEye light up the room scene before starting up the stairs.
