A plasma display was the obvious choice for this open living room, adjacent to the kitchen. An in-wall surround sound system was chosen to deliver a good movie watching experience yet remaining unobtrusive. Below the plasma display panel are high quality KEF in-wall speakers for left, center, and right channel sound.
In addition to movie watching in the living room, the clients also wanted to watch TV from the kitchen area where they spend a lot of time. They were concerned about not being able to see the plasma panel very well if it was mounted flat to the wall.
Although the TV is still useful when it is in its normal position, people in the kitchen are far off the ideal viewing axis. That makes it hard to see things like graphics on the screen — news tickers, sports scores, etc. It just feels uncomfortable and awkward. But the solution is actually quite simple.
Click the detail photo (below right) to see how we used an articulating mounting mechanism to solve the problem.
See how much better the view is when the display is swung out from the wall, facing the kitchen area.
The type of articulating mount we used is shown in the photo insert (at top right). In actual use, wires and cables are attached to the arm so that they remain hidden behind the display when it is moved through its range of motion.
